The primary purpose of this community-wide effort is to gather data that is truly representative of our community – capturing the voices, strengths, and needs of youth, adults, and older adults across all demographics in Midland County. This project includes three surveys tailored to these age groups (11-18, 19-59, and 60+) and is grounded in the Search Institute’s Developmental Assets framework to identify key protective factors throughout an individual’s life. The data from these surveys will reveal critical gaps in services that can be addressed to help all community members succeed and thrive.

  • In 2005, The Legacy Center began surveying youth to measure Developmental Assets and risk-behaviors. Due to the high rates of participation and meaningful data analysis, this quickly became the leading data source for schools and local youth-serving organizations.
  • By conducting the youth studies, it was discovered that students that have more of the 40 Developmental Assets participate in fewer risk-taking behaviors.
  • We worked to develop a new framework for adults aged 19-59 and seniors 60+ to determine which assets look like for adults and how many assets our local adults have.
  • To measure strengths and supports across age groups
  • To gain a holistic view of our community’s wellbeing
  • To look for intersections across groups
  • To align initiatives and solve problems intergenerationally.
  • Take the appropriate survey when they become available and encourage others in your life to do so as well!
