JUMP Math Program

As a curriculum, JUMP’s purpose is to foster a deep understanding and a love of math in its students. JUMP’s approach is based on the idea that all children can excel at math and, through early and continued success, can develop the confidence and cognitive abilities necessary to do well in mathematics. Our students generally test in the lower 25th percentile at intake or have special needs. The table below represents the cost of this one-to-one tutoring service. Learner Interest Form

[My son] struggled with reading early on. His first-grade teacher recommended [TLC] to us and he started with a tutor in the middle of second grade. He continued on until the start of fourth grade and made amazing progress. Today, at his fifth grade celebration, he received the gold presidential education award! Only 3 kids in the entire 5th grade earned that reward. Thank you so much for being a great resource to these children and the community.

Parent of Learner

[My learner was] not too happy about the idea of tutoring. Their reading skills were very weak, and they appeared discouraged even attempting to read one sentence. [With the Barton Reading program], my [learner] has improved his reading and writing to close to grade level. In the beginning, it was hard to get them to engage in any book beyond looking at the pictures. I have seen the self-confidence and trust of this [learner] improve over the past year. [Now,] they have independently read five books, excitedly bringing each book back to tell me about eachstory!

Margaret Cochran, Tutor, The Legacy Center

I started working with my student when he was in fourth grade. At that time, he did not know his alphabet. He was not reading and didn’t want to try to read. When he spoke, it was very hard to understand his words.

We began working on making good speech sounds and then started the Barton program. With lots of encouragement and hard work, he has made steady progress. Last year, in seventh grade, he read all of John Grisham’s teen novels about Theodore Boone, kid lawyer. He enjoyed those books so much that we wrote to John Grisham, and after many months, my student received a personal letter of response with praise for his hard work.

My student still struggles with spelling, but he is doing well in his school classes. He has become confident and is looking forward to finding a job and a career in his future.
