Summer 2026 – Legacy Learning Lab

The Legacy Learning Lab helps students build skills, confidence, and connections with others. This summer program includes reading and writing support, math instruction, and social emotional learning to help students stay academically strong during the summer. Students are grouped based on their skill levels, strengths, and learning needs so they receive support that fits them best.

Reading instruction uses the 95% Group Phonics Booster Bundle, a research-based program that helps students improve basic reading skills and close learning gaps before the new school year begins. Students also take part in Benchmark Decodable Reader’s Theater activities, which help improve reading fluency, comprehension, expression, and confidence through group reading and performances.

Math instruction uses the JUMP Math program, which teaches students to solve problems step by step by reducing math anxiety. The program helps students build confidence, improve math fluency, and better understand math concepts. Through guided lessons and hands-on learning, students learn to recognize patterns, think critically, and take positive risks while solving problems.

Social emotional learning is taught using the Too Good curriculum. Students will practice managing emotions, showing empathy, making good decisions, solving conflicts, communicating clearly, and handling peer pressure. Activities are interactive, practical, and useful in and outside the classroom.

Each day of instruction includes about:

  • 45 minutes of reading and writing
  • 20 minutes of social emotional learning
  • 45 minutes of math

The Legacy Learning Lab is is instructed by experienced tutors and work-based learning students and led by Legacy Center staff members:

  • Cassandra Honson, Coordinator of Reading Programs
  • Kay Rogers, Director of Math Programs
  • Marianne Murawski, Prevention Educator

The Legacy Learning Lab meets Tuesday through Thursday from 1:00 PM to 3:00 PM, starting Tuesday, June 9, and ending Thursday, July 30. The program will be closed July 6 through July 10 for Independence Day.

The cost for the summer program is $100 and due the first day on instruction. Space is limited, and students currently on waitlists will receive priority enrollment.
